One of Loren Pope’s 40 “Colleges That Change Lives,” Allegheny is located in the northwest corner of Pennsylvania and is known as one of the most innovative liberal arts colleges in the nation. On its historic campus—where the liberal arts and sciences have been taught for more than 200 years—students dive deep into majors and minors in areas that may, at first glance, seem unrelated: biology and economics, political science and music, psychology and global health studies. Allegheny students — 1800 undergraduates from 47 states and 70 different countries — share an abiding passion for learning and life, a spirit of camaraderie, and a respect for shared inquiry that spans all areas of study.

Building on the intersection of academic disciplines and passions, every student completes and defends the comprehensive Senior Project under the guidance of a faculty adviser in his or her major field. The project demonstrates the skills most prized by employers and graduate schools: the ability to complete a major assignment, work independently, analyze and synthesize information, and to write and speak persuasively. The completion of the senior project often with additional undergraduate research along with early and consistent experiential learning opportunities and the distinctive major/minor requirement spanning two disciplines are Allegheny distinctions. Join us to learn more about why this undergraduate experience opens doors for our students upon graduation and for life.
